Removal of liver cyst

Hello. Has anyone had a liver cyst removed? If so, how big was it? I have two and the largest is 5cm. The doctor has advised to leave it alone as it’s not very big. However, 5cm seems quite big to me and I suffer intermittent pain which is affecting my sleep - if I roll onto my right side it hurts.

I used to be a medical secretary and if I remember correctly they often disappear of their own accord. Most don't usually cause any symptoms. Was yours an incidental finding when having a scan for something else?

I have a 2cm one found as an incidental finding. Also cysts on my spine. None of them are even monitored which I find quite disconcerting. I think at 5cm they should monitor at least.

My husband, but his was about 12cm and had ruptured when they did the deroofing procedure. He has polycystic liver which means he has a lot and gets intermittent pain when they get big and runs the risk of another rupture. He had major pain recently but they haven't offered another procedure. It's no fun so you have my sympathies.

Oh and no ongoing monitoring which seems mad to me

No, it was discovered on a ultrasound scan because I had pain in that area. Four years ago I had one small cyst. I was re-scanned and had a MRI at the end of 23. I was then told that I had two cysts and the biggest is 5cm.

I haven’t been advised to have ongoing monitoring either.

I have a 2cm cyst on my liver which was found on an MRI scan nine years ago. I have never had any monitoring for it, maybe it's not even there now.
