When is Diarrhoea bad enough to warrant doctor?

DS is 6.5 and has been complaining of tummy pain off and on for a few days. Had a vomiting bug on Thursday.

Was up at 3am with bad diarrhoea and again at 6am. Since then has been about 5 times - very liquidy and explosive.

Do I just leave it a bit or should i take to doctor?

And he now says he is hungry! What can I give hi? Am thinking banana or plain bread?

As long as he keeps up his fluids and manages his food, I would just let it take it's course. If he goes a while without weeing or isn't managing to keep liquids down then a trip to dr is in order. Hope he feels better soon.

Thanks ym. He is now eating a slice of plain bread and I have given him some 7-up.

How is he in himself

FairyMum · 19/03/2008 08:23

Ds1 had bad tummy bug and could not keep anything down for 7 days and docs not worried. Just told me to give him diarylite.

ym - he is fine in himself. No temp - sitting at table colouring happily.

Bottom now sore when I wipe it for him so he is cross at me. Will put him in a bath with camomile teabags later.

Don't have any dioralite. Not sure he would take it anyway.

As he is older you probably don't have any nappy rash cream knocking about, could use vaseline or vitamin e on his bottom if he will let you. He sounds as though he is going to knock it on the head if temp is norm and he is happy in himself. All the best

Thanks YM - I do have Sudocreme! Always have it in the house so I will put that on after his bath. Fingers crossed - hasn't been to loo for about an hour.
