odd bruise on dd's lower leg (age 5)

I'm sure it's nothing but just thought I'd ask if anyone else has seen something like this.

I noticed a large deep purple bruise on the front of dd's leg, just above ankle height when I was dressing her for school. I was surprised by it because it looked big enough to have been made by an accident she'd have mentioned as we'd been together all weekend. When I looked closer I realised that the centre of it was completely white with a hard lump, about the size of a frozen pea under the skin. I asked if it hurt and she says it doesn't. Yesterday the bruise had spread wider but the lump's the same. Same today.

I'm taking her for her mmr booster this afternoon so I wondered if I should get the nurse to take a quick look?

Yes I would especially as you are there.Just to put your mind at rest.

Could it be anything to worry about though?

She's been a lot better. It's a lifetime condition though so it does tend to flare up and down again but generally she's looking utterly beautiful.

How's your little sadist doing?

not sure about the bruise, but the lump is normal, my dd getslumps in a bruise when she bangs herself badley, maybe your dd has knocker her leg whilst playing

imaginaryfriend · 18/03/2008 14:20

It wasn't that kind of normal lump though. It's not a smooth bump within a bruise, it's a hard round lump in a white patch of flesh surrounded by an expanding deep purple bruise.

Well the nurse was actually totally useless and said she'd never seen anything quite like it! She said the bump felt like a 'ridge' under the skin and was puzzled that the bruise was painless. She left me with the somewhat predictable advice to observe over the weekend and return if no change / change for the worse.

aimsmum, that's so disappointing! So when did sadistic surgeon turn into prancing princess? How long do I have left with my Super Pixie (currently into combining the super hero with Tinkerbell ...)

Her leg's weird. The bump is slightly bigger and harder and more white-looking but the bruise has gone darker and isn't spreading.

I have a kind of semi-girly girl. She's into mermaids and Tinkerbell but absolutely hates pink and princesses. Her biggest passion is for rabbits, she's been crazy about them since she was 2.
