Diverticulosis flare timescales for clear fluids only

After suffering with 'IBS' for several years Ive now been diagnosed with Diverticular disease. Finally things are fitting into the description for DD which Im sort of happy with. I have an appointment with the consultant at the end of February. Unfortunately, I now have a flare-up and am struggling about what to do, My GP was useless when I saw him on Friday.

So- the recommendation is to have a clear liquid diet for a 'few' days. I am 3 days in and still have a lot of cramps despite sipping clear liquids.

How do I know when I can move on to a low fibre diet? There is no guidance that I can see on the internet. Id would be so grateful for any hints or tips about managing this condition.

My own tip is in future not to ignore the niggly pains that heralded this bout.

Last time I had an attack, I was given antibiotics, advised to drink rehydration drinks and start eating easy foods when I felt ready. Codeine helps with the pain and can stop the shit bit.

Thank you @Mabelface
Thats what I meant about my gp being rubbish. He didnt see any reason for antibiotics although Ive read many people are given that as a standard.
He did prescribe Fybogel much to my mystification as constipation has never been a factor with me. But it was a moot point as the pharmacy didnt have it and sent the prescription back !

He had no other advice for me re food/ drink or pain relief. Oh yes - he said I can go and buy Buscopan if I am uncomfortable. Unfortunately I cant bear codeine effects but I dont have any anyway !
