Gastroenterologist referral - what to expect

I have been having tummy troubles for about 4 years, but massively ramped up the last 12 months. Recurrent painful cramps and diarrhoea episodes (8 times in the last year, lasting between a day - 2 weeks).

i have had blood tests (all fine), inflammation tests (normal), 2 x FIT tests (both negative). Never seen any blood either.

GP has referred me to gastroenterology (appointment in March). I had assumed I would be having some form of test done but the letter says nothing about it just the time and date.

has anyone ever had similar symptoms to what I have? And do you know what I could expect at my appointment?

thanks

My DH was referred a couple of years ago, due to tummy pain, occasional blood in stools. Diverticulitis and chrons disease run in his family so he had a CT scan, which confirmed diverticulitis and had a colonoscopy last September where they diagnosed colitis and he also had a couple of polyps removed and biopsies taken just to rule out cancer. Luckily for DH the gastro team at our hospital rang him to go through his results and put him on medication, his follow up appointment with gastroenterologist was scheduled last month but got cancelled due to junior doctors strike, he now has an appointment in March. He also has an appointment scheduled with dietitian for next month.
