Constantly unwell...

Since I had my gall bladder removed when my son was 1 years old, I've been constantly unwell.
I always have on and off diarrhoea but I think my immune system must be so down because I catch everything going.
From September to now I'm on my THIRD sickness and diarrhoea bug. This one being the worst and I can't get off the toilet - been going on for over 24 hours now.
Aside from this I had mastitis last week and needed anti biotics.
In November I had a really bad chest thing where I was breathless and couldn't even speak. Then lots of colds too (they don't bother me though because at least I can carry on).
I never used to catch anything and now I feel like I'm constantly unwell??
Any tips on improving my immune system. I work in the hospital as a nurse so constantly exposed to germs. I get sick more often than my 2 year old it seems.

Have you heard of Bile Acid Malabsorption(BAM), I think it’s common in people who have had their gallbladder removed. I know it has diarrhoea as a symptom but don’t know much more about it. I’ve heard of it as I have crohns and many people think they IBD when it’s actually bam.

Yes this is what they are saying I've got. They've given medication for it but I don't get on with it because it gives me heart burn and makes me feel sick so I can't win.

There’s powder and tablets, think more people get on with the tablets but I know for some both cause side effects.

Healthy diet which is really rich in plants as well as a regular intake of fermented foods (kefir, saurkraut, kimchee etc).

Have a listen to the latest Zoe podcast on inflammation and the immune system. It's really interesting and talks about a breakdown in the gut barrier if you've had high levels of inflammation which further compounds the problem by allowing germs to enter. It's free and I'd highly recommend.

I have gallstones but luckily no pain so my gastroenterologist told me to not take it out unless I had to as I'd probably end up with gut issues for life. Some people swear by bile salts to help - not sure how true it is though.

@Titsywoo unfortunately I had no choice to get it removed because it was infected and about to burst so was removed very quickly. I didn't have a lot of time to think about it but they said it needs to come out asap. It really has affected my gut very badly.

Ask your doctor about BAM bile acid malabsorption happens sometimes with gallbladder removal I have it on and off can have tablets to help bind the acid. Or google and read about it
