Potential tonsil cyst

Sillsley · 02/01/2024 13:57

just looking to see if anyone else has experience the same issue, I suffer a lot with tonsillitis and also tonsil stones when checking my mouth the other day I come across this large what looks like a cyst under the skin on my tonsil full of puss.
Never experienced any tonsil cysts before

I have had antibiotics which haven’t cleared it, and I have now been referred to ENT which my appointment is on the 12th January a two week referral to get it seen to or else I would be waiting for at least 18 months.

My anxiety is really high at the moment, and I was just wondering if anyone could give me any advice?
I have no pain whatsoever it’s not causing me any issues with eating or swallowing.

Thank you 😀

ladies feeling a bit anxious today, looks like I may have a small cyst appearing on the other tonsil now so starting to worry, hopefully don’t become as big..

I am still worried about the large one I have that it is something bad! No symptoms or sore throats etc just a headache for. Like 3 days but maybe due to lack of sleep..

just need some reinsurance this isn’t bad and it’s is only just a cyst

thank you ladies 🥰

Good luck x

Sillsley · 12/01/2024 13:44

Had my appointment it is a cyst, very common, had the top taken off and then he said it should disperse in its own time

😀

Hello!

I'm so relieved to have come across this thread. I have a similar looking white lump on one tonsil and another tiny white dot on the other. No symptoms, no sore throat and it's really not bothering me, I just don't like the look of it and I'm worried it's something bad. Do you think it could be a cyst? I have a GP appointment on Wednesday and hoping for an ENT referral.

I've put a blue ring around both white lumps.

Thank you!

@Taylor75111 sorry only just seen this message, I can imagine you are feeling very anxious as I was for month after I noticed that cyst on my tonsil.

If yours is a start of a cyst they are very small but looked bigger than yours but mind turned out to be a benign cyst thankfully and just checking today it has just gone 😌

definitely go and see your GP and please keep me updated

x

Hi.
hope you’re well.
do you mind me asking how long it took for your tonsil cyst to go ?

thursdaymurderclub · 04/09/2024 19:56

Quincy? maybe my daughter has this a few years ago, but it did bother her and she neded up in a&e on antibiotics

Sillsley · 04/09/2024 23:06

@Stevemf hi it wouldn’t go itself and was there for a few months but after I went to ENT and they removed the skin of the top it took about a month or so for it to completely go.

have you got one?

OP posts:
Stevemf · 05/09/2024 11:21

Thanks for the reply.

yes Apparently so.

it’s pretty small, no pain, and only first noticed it when flossing a back tooth.

video consultation with GP said Cyst, and would give a referral to ENT if I wanted 2nd opinion & to clarify.

Stevemf · 05/09/2024 12:38

seems pretty small

@Sillsley That's very reassuring, and I hope you're all healed up and fighting fit. I've got my ENT in a couple of hours and think I may have the same thing (see photo). What was the process for you? Did they numb and cut? Was it a Dr Pimple Popper type thing?

I have to say the NHS have been great, as always. Just over a week from reporting symptoms to being seen by ENT. Although the speed does also make you feel a little anxious, like "why the hurry?".

Day 1 (Thursday) - 111 online referral to pharmacist (referred back to 111 and escalated to GP)
Day 2 (Friday) - GP appointment made for 08:30 Tuesday.
Day 6 (Tuesday) - GP appointment. Referred to ENT. Given choice of hospital. Hospital called within 2 hours to book me in for the following Monday.
Day 12 (Today) - Heading off to the ENT in a couple of hours.

@SuperAwesomeMe it is such a worry isn’t it? Well mine was pretty quick too, my Gp knows I suffer with anxiety and she pushed it through as a 2 weeks referal and I got seen quickly by ENT, but I then worried it was suspected cancer or something but she reassured me that wasn’t why she was pushing it through quickly.

I went in the doctor look at it said I was a cyst and non cancerous and I could’ve left it but would go when it felt like it or he could of pulled the skin off it and then over time it will disperse, I decided to go for him numbing it and using these tongs to pull skin off and then with like 2 weeks it went ☺️☺️

you will be fine , do let me know how you get on

Thanks. The GP did do the whole "it's the cancer pathway but that doesn't mean it's cancer" talk and they were really supportive and reassuring, but as the appointment gets closer it just gets more scary.

Sillsley · 23/09/2024 09:19

@SuperAwesomeMe its does bless you, but I promise it will be fine, looks very similar to mine and sure it’s just a cyst !!

what time is your appointment today? Will be thinking of you ☺️

Thanks. 11:30. So I'll report back later.

SuperAwesomeMe · 23/09/2024 12:32

Had an endoscopy and the lump is a mucus retention cyst. Follow up appointment is going to be booked for further examination, but at least the worst has been ruled out. Thanks for the support and reassurance.

Sillsley · 23/09/2024 22:55

@SuperAwesomeMe great I am so pleased , such a relief..

so couldn’t they remove it today like they did mine, as mine was the same as yours

OP posts:
SuperAwesomeMe · 23/09/2024 23:02

@Sillsley no, they said it's better to leave it for now. They had trouble getting to it. Not sure why. They're going to make a follow up appointment, so I guess if it's still causing a problem then they'll do it then.
