My son has been ill with a sore throat, vomiting, headache and fever. he has just started to perk up but has come out in a 'sandpaper' rash.
I rang his school to tell them he wouldn't be in and they asked me what his symptoms were and when I said they told me they had scarlet fever going round the school. I have just looked it up on the pooter and he has all the symptoms.

What do I do?

phone your doctor. Scarlett fever should be treated with antibiotics.

DaisySteiner · 17/03/2008 09:22

Poor him. I would call the doctor. If it is Scartlet Fever it's caused by Streptococcus bacteria which can be treated with antibiotics.

go to the docs pronto and get me a whacking big dose of anti biotics!
he 'll be totally fine so log as he gets the anti b's.

themildmanneredbunny · 17/03/2008 09:22

get HIM sorry!

TiggerMeJigs · 17/03/2008 09:23

Thanks guys!! Do you know how long he has to be kept off of school? is he better now the rash is out? I have triplets,do you think the others will get it?

Sorry,lots of questions.

yes, your triplets could get it. I think it's fairly easily treated once you start the antibiotics.

themildmanneredbunny · 17/03/2008 09:24

don't know. he needs to be off school a week i would say. i know that once ds had been on the ant b's for 48 hours i could take him out but if he's ill he will need to be home till he's totally better i should think.

TiggerMeJigs · 17/03/2008 09:25

Right I shall ring the doctor now!!!

If your triplets start to develop the sore throat get them on antibiotics ASAP and with any luck that will stop them developing full-blown scarlet fever.
