Really anxious - my period won’t stop!

I have bleeding since the 1st December. Not much just spotting. The spotting goes from bright red to brown to almost stopped to red again in a never ending loop. I have convinced myself this is uterine cancer and I’m so worried. I am 32 so no it would be rare but not impossible. I am seeing the gynaecologist on 3rd January.

I had a pelvic ultrasound at the beginning of the year. Would that have picked up anything sinister?

Are you on the pill?

Could you be pregnant?

Rosiiee · 22/12/2023 11:50

When was your most recent Pap smear?

youneveractually · 22/12/2023 11:55

were you referred after the results of the scan?

BonnieHam · 22/12/2023 12:07

Not on the pill. Not pregnant. I haven’t had a recent scan. I’m seeing the Gynaecologist through my own private healthcare - initially it was to discuss the fact that my periods for about 6 months prior have been very scant with minimal bleeding.
Wondering if it could be a hormonal thing going on?

Smear test was a year ago - all fine there.

how long ago was the scan you refer to in your Op?

BonnieHam · 22/12/2023 12:10

it was January this year - so a while ago. It was arranged to check for PCOS because I have very scant periods. Nothing of concern was found

ok so actually quite irrelevant to this issue

i would out to back of mind and wait for gynae app. it’s really the only option

BonnieHam · 22/12/2023 12:18

Yes I’m just wondering if uterine cancer was brewing whether it would be seen a year ago?

Why would you jump straight to cancer? Bleeding can be caused by a lot of things and most commonly it’s a hormonal thing. Or for literally no reason, just because being a woman isn’t difficult enough and our body decides to do its own thing.

doubleshotcappuccino · 22/12/2023 13:42

It's more likely a hormone thing .. this is a really slow growth area for the Big C so that would have been likely to have picked up on the last scan - try and get hold of an emergency appt and get tranexamic acid which you can take 3 times a day .. this will help with the bleeding ( you might need iron tablets too but if you do this get something to help with them as they can be a bit full on) I'm not doctor but have had years of this same thing xx

doubleshotcappuccino · 22/12/2023 13:43

Brufen also helps reduce bleeding but it never worked for me

Wehavealaughdontwe · 22/12/2023 14:02

I've had this since being put on desogestrel following removal of one ovary and fallopian tube a year ago. I bleed for 8 weeks at a time, hideously heavy, clotting etc. Then maybe a week or 2 off if I'm lucky then it starts again. It is hell and my iron is very low. Scans have shown nothing sinister so don't panic as it isn't necessarily that, but like others said probably a hormone issue like mine seems to be

BonnieHam · 22/12/2023 14:44

I think I just feel like I “know” it’s going to be bad. I’m not usually anxious so it is unsettling

doubleshotcappuccino · 22/12/2023 16:27

@BonnieHam honestly I was the same - convinced it was bad news and it wasn't - it was hormones ..

Goatymum · 23/12/2023 15:09

I had this in my 20s and it was hormonal. The pill sorted it but it was a pain when trying to conceive. No-one really told me if it affected fertility or not.
I never had it again since having children.

BonnieHam · 23/12/2023 22:22

@Goatymum i am ttc. How did it go? Did it get in the way or were you still ovulating, if you don’t mind me asking.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm wondering if it could be early menopause/perimenopause as I had a period that lasted about a month just a year before my periods stopped altogether.

Tunnocks34 · 05/01/2024 20:11

Oh this has happened to me a few times. Turns out I am perimenopausal! I am only 34!
