What can I eat with a stomach ulcer?

I'm being treated for a stomach ulcer ( waiting for a gastroscopy to confirm it.) I'm suffering pain after virtually everything I'm eating currently, even though I'm eating v little due to pain and constant nausea.

What can I eat that will give me the least discomfort? I'm aware I need to avoid spicy foods, acidic foods, chocolate, alcohol, caffeine, dairy, fatty foods. But what CAN I eat? DP is suggesting jacket potato for dinner, but what can I have on it?

Low acid foods? Mild cheese might be OK? I guess you've had that dinner now though. How are you doing? I have had acid reflux for almost a month now, PPIs not making any difference, just had blood test and I am anaemic so things not looking good. I am hoping this is all to do with stomach ulcer rather and/or helicobacter pylori rather than something more sinister. Not sure what's next --- endoscopy?

I hope you've had therapy now for the ulcer

... oh and speak to your doctor about Manuka honey

Eat whatever you can tolerate. Everyone is different and you've been given some example of what common trigger foods are.

For example, avoiding "fatty" food doesn't mean you have to eliminate all fats, just that a big creamy dish might irritate your stomach more than something smaller and less rich.

Take small mouthfuls, chew well, eat slowly and have small portions and eat well before bedtime.

A jacket potato with some beans or tuna or a little cheese seems a reasonable place to start. Some roasted Mediterranean veg with rice or cous cous, a lean piece of meat and boiled/ steamed vegetables. Keep a note of symptoms and food to see what works for you.

Hi as someone who had H Pylori and a gastric bleed (serious stuff), I had no real appetite for three months prior to accurate diagnosis and lost lots of weight due to similar symptoms to yours.

I did feel hungry at times, but nothing appealed to me. I honestly existed on full fat Greek or protein yogurt with blended fruit and spinach/nuts added, I made smoothies with fruit and veg + powdered protein. In the end I was given Fortisip drinks to add to what I could tolerate. All that stuff kept me alive although I lost weight and didn't really need to! The irony.... I had to eat nearly liquidised food as my swallow was affected by the HPylori infection all along.

The gastro consultant told me it didn't matter what I ate as long as I was getting something into me that didn't make me suffer any pain or discomfort. So that's what I did and I'm fine now after treatment for the HP infection and blood transfusions and iron infusions for the blood loss. You will be ok, but just eat what you can tolerate. Trial and error. Don't force yourself to eat anything that doesn't appeal to you.

Hope you get well soon.
