Watching with interest.

Vague memories of tying off with thread...?

monkeytrousers · 14/03/2008 19:26

You can get these zapped off at any GP's that practices minor surgery. Literally, half an hour. Ask your GP and if they don't do it somewher mearby will!

brazilnutsyum · 14/03/2008 22:19

I had mine zapped by GP recently. With hydrogen oxide? I was really cold anyway, and quite sore after about the 8th one . My GP suggested that it was a jumper or a necklace that could have caused them. They WERE in a necklace shape around my neck.

BoysAreLikeBunnies · 14/03/2008 22:20

Gawd I hate going to the doctors.

Can't we just tie 'em off and hope not to get gangrene?

Yurtgirl · 14/03/2008 22:22

I learnt how to do this from a magazine but havent had the courage to do it yet - mainly because I cant see what Im doing iykwim

two ways
1 tie a piece of cotton around it - tight!
Put a plaster on, wait a week and it should fall off

2 tie cotton around it - and then......... cut it off!!!!!!!

there was a bit about checking to make sure no chance of it being cancerous etc but I have forgotton that bit!

i had one on my neck and he cauterized it
took ten mins
smelled nasty but thats it!

BibiThree · 14/03/2008 22:28

Can I use wartner on them?

pukkapatch · 14/03/2008 22:28

i had a skin tag in my armpit for years. my waxing lady threaded it off. i kid you not.

BibiThree · 14/03/2008 22:31

Oooh, did that hurt pukka?

pukkapatch · 14/03/2008 22:34

it didnt actually. that was really surprising. i wasnt really sure what she was doing, she sort of squeezed it really tight with the cotton, then again, and then used scissors to cut it off. the waxing paijn had been far worse.

BoysAreLikeBunnies · 14/03/2008 22:35

That is so hardcore, Pukka. Respect

pukkapatch · 15/03/2008 08:19

honest, it didnt hurt.

cmotdibbler · 16/03/2008 20:12

I've cut quite a few off myself (with sterile scissors) after having a couple done at the doctors and realising I could do it myself.

Not painful, and they don't really bleed much at all.

dinny · 16/03/2008 20:17

oh, bleurgh

dh had one and he PULLED it off last week, lunatic!

actually, I have one under my armpit that always gets caught in bra
off to GP about a mole so will get her to get rid if she can...

hotCheeseBurns · 16/03/2008 20:20

Soak it in dettol for a bit, makes 'em easier to cut off. And make sure the scissors/knife are/is very sharp!

chenin · 16/03/2008 20:36

A good beautician will laser them off for you... i have had loads done on my neck! They go a bit black (do it now, whilst you can wear a polo neck!) and then they drop off ... whole process takes a 3 days max.

It was sooooo worth it and I wish I had had it done before cos I have always been very self conscious of them.

Doctors aren't too keen on doing them for cosmetic reasons... and will only do them if they catch on something and bleed which is health reasons

emma1977 · 16/03/2008 20:36

As a GP who does minor surgery, I would tend not to cauterise or freeze these off- a bit OTT and has potential to cause scarring.

By far the easiest method is to tie a thin piece of cotton around the base of the tag as tightly as possible, leave for a day or two, and it will drop off.

And you get to avoid going to the doctors!

treacletart · 16/03/2008 20:37

here's the story of my skin tag

expatinscotland · 16/03/2008 20:38

thanks, hellie.

i have a LOAD of them on my neck just now, and i'm sure i'll get more as am pregnant.

but like twiglett, i want them off as the weather's getting warmer.

allegrageller · 16/03/2008 20:39

I've got them around the armpits. Bleurgh

I've tried pulling them (in a nasty obsessive way, am also a nailbiter!) but they seem to get longer, am seriously considering the cutting option.

chenin · 16/03/2008 20:45

If they are not too big, expat, a beautician charges for lasering by 5 minute slots and you could probably get them all done in 5 minutes or 10 minutes max. It cost me next to nothing but the beautician I go to does work from home
(Big congrats on the pregnancy BTW )

Twiglett · 08/05/2008 14:29

they're gone

gp did them .. no cost

the smell of burning flesh was not pleasant though

Mikafan · 08/05/2008 14:40

I've had loads of these since being pregnant (DD is one now) and they've not gone. The most irriating one is above my right eye, about 2mm away from the end of my eyelashes so its really noticeable.

Hotcheesebun - do they hurt much when you cut them off? Do you stretch it as much as you can first then snip it right next to the skin?

Countingthegreyhairs · 08/05/2008 14:46

Um, dh has lots of these. I was advised by our doctor (live mainland Europe) to clean, tie strong cotton thread around base very tightly, leave well alone until they drop off (they turn black - it takes 2 or 3 days).

The only thing to watch for is to tie the loop just right so you pull it tight right at BASE of skin tag (more difficult to do than you might imagine). Otherwise you end up leaving a little lump ....

I'm starting to quite enjoy our ritual now ...rubs hands .... cackles maniacally ...
