Hi, my son has recently been diagnosed with grade 3 spondylolisthesis and we have been told that he needs fairly urgent spinal surgery which will take place at the Evelina hospital in London and involve spinal fusion, rods, screws, metal cage etc. I wondered if anyone has any experience of this surgery and can advise on what to expect post surgery. Thank you

I was operated on for cervical myelopathy week after diagnosis, the surgeon called it what could be 'ungrateful surgery' it took about 4 or 5 hours in theatre and I now have metal pins in the neck but I improved and it stopped the degeneration, whilst not the exact same I am kind of familiar with the word and only wish the best for your son.

I remember being stiff after the op and it took a good few weeks with having physio after the surgery. Sage advice was don't rush recovery, avoid falls. Got back to life after around 3 months. Before the operation I went onto facebook and found an actual support group (registered charity) who I could ask questions off and each month there is the opportunity of a monthly virtual meeting which is invaluable. I used a walking stick for around 6 months to help with gait.

I'm glad I had the surgery and think I've been one of the luckier ones with the condition. The consultants were a bit blaise, saying CM and DCM only happens to the very elderly but I've met all ages with it since.

I found this info guide like I got for CM
