Is tonic water toxic in excess?

How much would you need to drink? I seem to remember an episode of house where a character died from drinking tonic water. I've been having a few little cans every day, it's great to stop you reaching for the wine. It is not so nice that you swig it down, it's not sweet like coke, it's just something you sip out. however, been having a few every night and I couldn't get the answers I was looking for on google!

I don't actually know the answer regarding toxicity but the episode of House was because tonic water has quinine in and the character was allergic to it.

Tonic water contains no more than 83 mg of quinine per litre.
The smallest reported fatal dose is 1.5 g in an adult.
You would have to knock back 18 litres of the strongest tonic water to reach the lowest recorded fatal dose.

Ah phew! Only drinking max 300mls per night.

If I have too much (say more than 2 GnT's) I get horrendous insomnia.

Confused

I wonder if the character in House had water toxicity? As drinking water to excess can be toxic in itself

thinks back to the 90s and deaths from water intoxication after taking Ecstasy at a rave

One of the Fat Lady chefs was an alcoholic and she went to her doctor as she was feeling ill. He thought she might have quinine poisoning but said she'd have to be drinking pints of tonic water to get that; she replied she was!

300mls per night is an ordinary can size, you're completely fine, op. You are suffering from watching too much House, rather than drinking too much tonic.

Official diagnosis - House fan 😅

I'll keep an eye out for it affecting my sleep.

I want to try and get through work Christmas party without alcohol as I tell everybody everything, feel sick for two days and get such bad anxiety playing over all the stupid things I said. I can't do this to myself this year.
