My tooth is suddenly hurting a couple of months after a filling?
The tooth has been a bit sensitive since I had it done but not causing any major issues, however today it's suddenly started throbbing and really hurting! Anyone know why this could be?

hello I had this a few weeks back. Had a filling done in July, quite a deep one. Dentist said 50/50 chance it would be okay as it was very close to pulp and nerve. Anyway two weeks ago I woke with toothache. It was sore on and off for a week before I braved the dentist. She said it could be three things;

  1. tooth was dying and I’d need root canal
  2. tooth was infected and I’d need root canal
  3. filling was too “high/proud” and effecting my bite

she shaved down the filling, I switched to sendodyne rapid relief and so far so good….

mine was never a throb tho only a ache, I’d give it maybe a 4/10 in pain. She said if filling not sitting right you can irritate nerve.

hopr it’s ok but speak to dentist and they should review it for free if it’s the recently filled tooth x

Update: the pain has gotten a lot worse today 😢 not even sure what's causing it, it just feels extremely sensitive and any time anything cold touches it my mouth just explodes in pain!

Yes, I've seen an emergency dentist this evening, tooth needs a root canal 😩 he's put some medication in it to kill the nerves and relieve pain, then I need to go back in two weeks for the final part x

Hey did you manage to get it sorted was it root canal needed? I’m having a similar issue literally had 3 fillings done 1 was painful and sensitive from the start currently have a temporary filling to see if it was the filling or my tooth. No longer have pain so must of been the filling, the next 2 one is completely fine and one was fine and the last couple days it’s become so sensitive. Sensitive when I floss and eat it I don’t have painkillers in me. It is mild but can’t be normal. Don’t understand what’s happening! Teeth have been shit since babies
