DS unwell, odd symptoms, any ideas??

DS (6 months) has been a bit unwell since yesterday, and I'm wondering whether to take him to the doctor. Symptoms (which may of course not be linked) are as follows: fluctuating temperature (36 to 38.1), very pale skin on face, eyes a little red-rimmed and slightly puffy, unusually tired (couldn't keep him awake a couple of times yesterday, and keeps rubbing eyes and face), unusually grumpy, maybe a bit sickier than normal. I've also just discovered that the tip/underside of his penis is red and sore. I'm probably worrying about nothing, but it's the first time he's been unwell, so I guess I'm oversensitive.

Can anyone offer a diagnosis or some advice? And should I take him to the doctor?

I would ring the surgery and ask to speak to the nurse for advice. They will soon tell you if he needs to be seen. FWIW I think his penis being red is less of a worry than his temp and not being able to keep him awake. Is he feeding okay and having wet nappies?

Thanks for the quick replies! Yes, he's feeding fine. Phoning the nurse sounds like a good plan.

By the way, what counts as a worrying temp in a baby??

Thanks. He's actually a lot perkier this afternoon and has got some of his colour back, so I think I'll wait until tomorrow morning and call the doctor if he's had a relapse. He's still got the sore penis, though - has anyone else had any experience of this with their DS??
