What’s going on with my stomach?

Sorry in advance for gory details.

I’ll preface this with I’ve never had stomach issues before.

Last month I was on amoxicillin for a chest infection. A few weeks ago we were out for lunch and I just felt a bit blah after, like the food was too rich. Vaguely nauseous. This lasted a week on and off.

On Monday and Tuesday I started feeling vaguely nauseous again and had to keep going to the loo. Not really upset stomach but just quite urgent I went.

Yesterday I felt a bit sick again and have an upset stomach . Last night was grim, terrible stomach cramps and nausea. I’m having to take today off work.

What is going on? I have a family history of pancreatic cancer so am on high alert with this. I wondered if maybe the antibiotics have ruined my gut health and I need some probiotics. I’m scared to eat as the pain is so bad.

Thanks for any help you can give.

I've had similar symptoms recently and wondered if it was a virus. Starting to feel more normal now but not 100pc. Hope you start to feel better soon.

Sounds like me when I’ve had gluten. Developed intolerance recently. Blood tests all fine so doc suggested probably and intolerance as only allergies show on bloods.

Or just guts screwed up by the anti biotics.

Take a course of Optibac One Week Flat then keep boosting up on regular probiotics/healthy gut foods?

Antibiotics kill your gut bacteria. Try a few probiotics.

Jandob · 17/11/2023 15:52

Antibiotics also kill good bugs so take prebiotic or yoghurt.

Pregnant?

redfacebigdisgrace · 17/11/2023 17:24

Definitely not pregnant @SJ89SJ eek!

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. I’ve ordered some probiotics. I’m still feeling rough. I’ve just had some chicken soup. Hope I don’t regret it!

That’s interesting @PerspiringElizabeth as I only ate toast yesterday! I normally stay clear of too much bread as it makes me feel a bit bloated.

This sounds like something viral that went through our house last week. Kids were fine, vomited once. Myself and my mum had nausea and just didn't feel right. Then 2 days of cramps and sweats. Still not totally rofjt after it.

Probiotics, kefir, kombucha, other fermented stuff really help when stomach is out of whack

IMustDoMoreExercise · 17/11/2023 20:14

It might be Covid but in any case you need to replace the good bacteria that the antibiotics destroyed.

But it is better to eat probiotic foods rather than supplements.

Another one to say it could be gluten, particularly if you generally avoid toast. I avoided pizza for years before eventually getting really quite sick and diagnosed with coeliac disease. if it continues ask your GP to check your bloods
