One side of face swollen, any ideas please 🤔

Please help if you can. Started with a hard, lump between nose and eye, saw GP, referred for MRI which found something, since had biopsy looking for basal cell carcinoma which was negative. However, the whole left side of my face has now swelled up (not overnight, it's been gradual),and the lump gets crusty. Anyone got any ideas please?

Do you sleep on your side? Could it be an allergy to washing powder or dust mites in your pillow?

LeakyPipes · 13/11/2023 20:11

I have no ideas, but I'm hoping your GP is still investigating...?

Swimeveryday · 13/11/2023 22:51

Have you had any dental work? Bone injected into your jaw for dental implants? Ear infection? My friends left side of her face swelled up and it was an infection in her jaw.

Ask for an urgent ENT or Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery Consult... the middle third is a bit of a no-man's land between the two specialities... This is one for either of those teams.

Thank you for the replies, much appreciated! Initial GP appointment was a telephone one, I sent photos and was prescribed antibiotics which did nothing so assume not an infection. Had a face to face after that which led to the MRI then biopsy. I have managed to activate Help@hand through work today so will try that tomorrow.

@Badatthis I do sleep on my side but the other one! No new detergents, plenty of dust but only one side affected 😔.
@LeakyPipes I hope so too, not heard anything for a while though.
@Swimeveryday nothing done to teeth, I hope your friend is okay now?
@LatteLady Thank you, I will ask for this tomorrow, really not convinced it's a dermatology problem!

Any further progress, OP? I hope things are no worse Flowers

Hi @LeakyPipes thank you so much for asking, face got really painful so I went to a walk in clinic today and got diagnosed with shingles. A bit rubbish but not too scary, I've got antivirals and cocodamol for the pain. Thank you.

Ouch @Rubyfw5 - that sounds very sore, but I’m glad you have a diagnosis and something to help with the pain. I hope it will soon settle down for you 💐

determinedtomakethiswork · 28/11/2023 22:28

Oh that must be very painful. The thing I found about shingles is that the pain is bad but I was very very rundown afterwards which I wasn't expecting. You need to really take care of yourself now 💐

Rubyfw5 · 30/11/2023 18:57

@LeakyPipes & @determinedtomakethiswork , thanks both, I'm not convinced it's shingles as the pain has gone, still tender but all swelling remains and no blisters. Hope you both are okay? X
