Want to stop anti biotics

Hi everyone, sorry for the double post but I want to know whether I can stop these anti biotics basically. I have wisdom tooth pain, I personally think it's because I'm grinding my teeth due to anxiety in my sleep, dentist said everything looks ok, x ray looked good too but wanted to give anti biotics just incase I have a wisdom tooth infection. It does hurt yes but I don't think it's infected as it's not red or anything, I'm going to post an image below. The anti biotics are making me feel vile and I don't want to take them for no reason, I've only took 3. The redness on my cheek has now developed into an ulcer from biting I assume. Can anyone tell me if this looks like an infection? Dentist didn't even know if it was infected he said it's just 'precautionary' I do have anxiety so worried about this.

You need to finish the course - stopping them early can create issues with resistance. Anti-nausea medications that you can buy over the counter have been very helpful for my daughter when she’s not agreed with antibiotics plus strong probiotics as well

I've only took 3 and really don't think I have an infection, I can see bite marks all around the tooth, the anti biotics are making me itchy giving me headaches and a really bad stomach, also feel super dizzy, I don't think it's worth it especially when I don't think I have an infection at all! Dentist didn't even know himself just said to take anyway

Ask your GP for omeprazole, that should help with the stomach issues. I completely sympathise as I've got a completely broken wisdom tooth and it's a nightmare. I'm on schedule for 3 complex extractions so have had a few courses of antibiotics

AFAIK It is no longer essential to take antibiotic treatment up to the very last day. Hopefully someone better informed will come along. But a couple of times I have been prescribed antibiotics that made me really sick and the doctor changed the prescription. If I were you I'd just stop. I

If you are grinding your teeth ask your dentist for a mouth guard

Yes tbh I don't think it's infected at all, I have severe anxiety lately and I can see all the ulcers and bite marks around the area, I'm not going to take the anti biotics anymore. I'm going to ask dentist for a mouth guard, he was leaning more towards grinding of my teeth aswell but he said he likes to be cautious just incase. I've seen the causes of wisdom teeth infections and none of them align with me, I'm nearly 30, never had issues with it, it grew normally etc, x ray was normal. I think il stop.

Thing is I don't think it's infected, no redness or swelling, barely irritated, I can eat and drink fine, it just feels like a dull ache/mild pain. I think i bite my teeth

@emilylouisex1 thing is though if you bite them then one tiny cut on your gum getting something in it will cause infection so if it was me I'd ride it out for the 5 days because at least you'll know for definite that it isn't infected. Obviously though it's your choice especially if it's making you feel so bad. Hope it gets better soon for you 🙏

That's what my anxiety keeps telling me but I feel so bad, I feel like I would have way more symptoms if it was infected

@emilylouisex1 I understand that but with one of mine all I had was a slight bit of pain but it was actually infected, yet another one I was in agony and my face was swollen right out yet it wasn't as badly infected as the first. So you see, infection can present differently in teeth. Really hope you get through it ok😊

FannyFifer · 04/11/2023 23:16

When I've had an infected tooth there is nothing to see either, just the pain, the infection is generally well under the gum line in the root of the tooth so no redness etc.
You should continue with antibiotics.

This is what worries me to carry on taking them but they're making me feel so sick and I have a fear of taking medication as it is. They are giving me palpitations, headaches, dizziness about 5 mins after I take one for an hour! My stomach is also in bits

Gently, those are anxiety symptoms. It's very unlikely that you'd be experiencing any physical symptoms from a tablet within just five minutes of taking it.

emilylouisex1 · 05/11/2023 07:27

@Persipan I'm worried it isn't though, the headache is bad, I know I have very high functioning anxiety, but I just keep thinking about the severe side effects. I'm stuck in a limbo 😢

I'm going to stop, had to leave church to go toilet I feel so dizzy like I have vertigo, my stomach kills. I don't even think it's an infection so it's not worth it
