Bloody mucous coating back of throat

I’ve just come down with a cold, every time I get sick like this the same thing happens. My throat gets coated in a thick mucous type thing (I’m guessing to protect the throat) with blood, so it’s like a pink/red colour. It just sits there and I occasionally can bring it to the front to spit it out. Where does the blood come from? I’m thinking maybe small blood vessels, no cough yet just this horrible feeling at the back of throat and runny nose/bunged up with headache. Does anyone else get this mucous?
