How long did other adults take to feel normal after the winter D&V bug?

I started being sick early Saturday. D&V had stopped by Saturday night but still had temp and nausea. Now its Monday afternoon and I still have temp and nausea and I generally feel like poo. I can't face eating either?

How long did this bug effect others? Please tell me I should feel better soon.

I will be watching this thread with great interest, am currently suffering as are the dc's, I have not however gone of my food I thought it may help me shift a few unwanted lbs!

mrsbabookaloo · 10/03/2008 15:55

I've just got over this and was quite surprised at how long it went on and how wiped out I felt even when it was over. DD was ill for nearly a week: I was sick for three days, better for a day, relapsed for a day, then just tired for the next three days.

Yuck.

Gec Mis Olsun as they say in Turkey - may it be in your past. Hope you feel better soon!

Hulababy · 10/03/2008 15:57

I have no idea if I had any particular bug but have had a D&V bug all weeknd.

Started on Friday night whilst at a ball. Had to leave sharpish as soon as the meal had ended just about. Was then up all night.

Felt a little better during the day on Saturday but very nauseous and tummy cramps. Slept all afternoon then had a second ball to attend. I managed to eat one bread roll, a slice of melon and a potato before having to go home again.

Was up all night with D&V again.

Spent most of Sunday in bed. V stopped but had D most of day on and off until early evening. Managed some toast in the early evening. Slept heavily last night.

Today I am just very tired and have some tummy cramps and a bit of nausea, but no more D&V. I have had toast again today and will try something more tonight.

Have work tomorrow so have to be better by the morning! Have had 16 weeks off sick this acadmic year already (2 ops) so can't afford more time off! Work would go mad.

Hulababy · 10/03/2008 15:58

DD on the other had was sick on Saturday night - whilst sleeping over at my parent's house. And that was it. No D&V continueing or anything. Was tired yesterday and a bit washed out, but slept for about 13 hours last night and woke fine.

Piffle · 10/03/2008 16:03

me it was five full days of crapness. Nausea diarrhoea no appetite or energy. Two days of ok better but still no appetite and odd bowels but not feeling ill per se.
dp obviously being a man had it far worse and it was a special exotic bug which only felled prime examples of masculinity, he did not, I repeat NOT simply just catch the kids bug. 4 days flat out in bed. 7 more days recovering manfully from this rare disease... You get the idea...

Hulababy · 10/03/2008 16:07

I am really hoping to feel better tomorrow! I can't face working in the prison feeling this delicate and with so little energy. Fingers crossed.

artichokes · 10/03/2008 16:13

Like Hula I have to go to work tomorrow and need to feel better. This lingering stuff sucks! D&V bugs aren't normally like this are they? I remember getting back on my feet much more quickly in the past.

Mrs Baboo - you have made me so happy using the term gec mis olsun. My late mother lived in turkey for 8 years and was fluent. Whenever I was ill as a child she would rock me back and forth saying "gec mis olsun, gec mis olsun" I had totally forgotten and you just bought it back. Thank you! Are you Turkish?

OP posts:
mrsbabookaloo · 10/03/2008 16:54

No, not Turkish, but lived there for 4 years, and some phrases just work better than English ones. They have phrases for so many situations that we don't!

Glad you liked it, what a nice coincidence that it brought back happy memories. I wondered if I was being poncey, but it just had to be said!

artichokes · 10/03/2008 17:03

WE lived in Turkey for a year when I was a child. I had a wuite good grip on the langauge then but most of it has gone now. I keep meaning to do a course to remind me before I lose it all.

Whereabouts did you live?

OP posts:
Hulababy · 11/03/2008 08:14

How is everyone feeling?

I still feel decidely delicate.

I am setting off for work shortly - urgh I am on a course today so at least I don't have to be there until 9:30ish, and it is much closer than normal workplace, will only take 45 minutes or so to get there.

The sickness has finished, but my tummy is still off. Still having to nip to the loo way too often. I had a slice of pizza last night - but it was definitly a bad move!

So, hopefully I should get through today okay, and hopefully by tomorrow - first day back in the prison - I will be better again.

I just want to curl up and go to sleep again.

mrsbabookaloo · 11/03/2008 10:15

Hello,

Hope you are all feeling better today.

Artichoke: I went to Istanbul when I was 22; best decision I ever made in my life. It's a fantastic city and we had a great life there.

Tutter · 11/03/2008 10:16

ooh

is this a clique?

i have Proper Flu plus a chest infection

does that count?

artichokes · 11/03/2008 10:38

Hi Tutter - You sound pretty sick. As long as you can certify that you feel like total pants then I think you can join.

I have lost 7lbs and counting today. Am missing work for the first time in years. I have developed an unhealthy knowledge of daytime TV schedules. How great is Jeremy Kyle?

OP posts:
Hulababy · 11/03/2008 17:33

Tutter; not good.

Well I went on my course and it was not good. I ried eating at lunch and then spent half my jounrey home being sick! Had to stop on M1 twice to be sick. Spent half of course in and out of teh toilets.

I have already decided that if it continues tonight I am not going into work at the prison tomorrow. the environment is bad ennough, really is a no go area when ill.

Will have to try and get an appointment to see the GP tomorrow to get a sick note though. Have already had 16 weeks off work this academic year due to my two ops - need doctor's notes really to cover anything more.

katz · 11/03/2008 20:02

Hulababy · 11/03/2008 21:00

Hulababy · 12/03/2008 20:50

DD better arleady. Spent all day complaining of being bored and asking what her friends would be doing at school. She will be going to school tomorrow!

I on the other hand will be staying home again. Sickness has gone but not the rest; still feel very washed out and struggling to eat. Have had a cereal bar and a slice of toast so far today.
