I Went to a concert on Saturday and ended the night with extremely sore ear , next morning it was both went to my gp on Tuesday as pain was horric and both eardrums burst and infection in both , I got antibiotics and painkillers and pain has eased but I'm 90% deaf in both ears I can only hear tiny amounts super close (think talking directly into ear or very loudly face to face) it's very disorientating and making every day things very difficult I have 4 kids and can't even hear the baby cry Dr wouldn't give timeline on healing but has anyone had similar ? How long did hearing take to return ? Tia

I’ve had this recently, it takes around 12 weeks to fully heal, but in reality I could hear much better after 2/3 weeks. I know it sounds like ages and it’s a really depressing thing not being able to hear but I promise it will get better each day then after a couple of weeks you’ll feel realise you feel 90% better - as it’s gradual I just suddenly realised I could hear if that makes sense?

Just do not get them wet or let anything go in your ears - I used ear covers (like see through plasters from Amazon) for washing hair.

I know it feels horrible but do not use anything other than what’s prescribed as you can re-break the ear drum if you use any buds or go near loud noises too soon. Also avoid water or anything to minimise the chance of reinfection!

You will feel better in a couple of weeks I promise!

I had similar after an ear infection, I've never known pain like it! Mine took about a month for the hearing to come back to an acceptable level but my eardrum burst with such force it also blew a hole in my sinuses into my tear duct 😂. Id recommend going to the GP if you end up with any ringing following the healing as I ended up being diagnosed with a small amount of permanent hearing loss due to the way my eardrum healed. I'm sending lots of sympathy as the sensation is awful

Hodgeheggery wow that sounds horrible 💐 you poor thing . Thanks 🙏 I'm keep a check on ringing right now there's just pain pressure and som blood in mornings , is blood normal at this stage ? When I went to gp on Tuesday I had been having slight bloody fluid (like watery) but yesterday and today been waking up with proper blood leaking I've tried calling gp but no appointments till Monday 😬.

Mine leaked for about 5 days! I had to carry round a bit of tissue and dab at it all the time, it was awful. Such a bizarre sensation. The main thing is you've got antibiotics, make sure you keep up to date with the painkillers! And get lots of rest Flowers

I have had loads of burst ear drums but only once have both sides gone at the same time! It took about 2 weeks before I could hear properly again, I was a teenager then though so healed quicker than I probably would now!

SweetBirdsong · 03/11/2023 19:23

That sounds horrific! I'm really sorry @Justmeeeindie I hope they heal soon. Flowers

Coming to this as I’ve got a burst eardrum and although I’m on antibiotics I still have a really sore head and face. Please tell me it will heal soon?! Im
on day 5 since it burst.

Justmeeeindie · 23/11/2023 13:59

@MsAnnFrope
Sorry your suffering hopefully antibiotics work fast 😬.
And it took about 2 weeks to hear out both ears again , I think around day 8/9 I started getting some hearing back so hopefully you won't have much longer too go pain wise pain went be around time hearing started back but still had some bleeding from ear 🤢.
