Hives, itching and acid reflux symptoms - any suggestions?

Would appreciate any advice on relieving acid reflux symptoms and itching.

A couple of months ago my husband had what was probably covid. He lost his sense of taste for a while and was getting a bad taste in his mouth. This didn't go away, so he thought it was probably acid reflux triggered by the original covid. Over the counter meds didn't work so he got some medication from the doctor. Unfortunately he had a bad reaction to these drugs where he was itching all over and had hives. He bruised his whole body itching it in his sleep. The doctor prescribed anti histamine which did nothing, and then steroids which helped temporarily. He's now taking a second week of those.

However, the original issues are not resolved. He's still itchy, and also still having symptoms which he assumes are acid reflux, lump in the throat, sensitive to foods and drinks. He's also tired and, understandably, grumpy!

He's been back on the phone to the doctors several times, they just give him more of the same things.

What could he do to help things calm down? He's cut coffee out completely as that's a known trigger. He's tried swapping washing powers, soap etc just in case. I'm wondering about a really plain diet to try to reset things for example.

Have a look at a low histamine diet - there's information on the Allergy UK site. It really helped me with similar issues.

A bit left of field but those can all be symptoms of kidney disease, or kidneys that are struggling. Has he had any continued fatigue, change to frequency of peeing, or a change in urine?

Look into histamine intolerance and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome

Thanks for the ideas, I can see that histamine ties the symptoms together. I think kidneys are ok or he'd have mentioned another symptom.
