Not Covid, lost taste and smell

For about 17 days now. Have had cough and cold with some sinusitis, how long until I should speak to Dr? I’m eating super hot curry and it’s not even touching the sides!

Also realised how important sense of smell is when I cracked a rotten egg into my would be scrambled eggs! It was just turning and I could tell by the texture, usually I can smell before I’ve even cracked the shell!! (We keep hens so it happens about 1/30 eggs).

I didn't realise how important smell is untill I lost mine too. Took 2 weeks, I also did smell therapy with essential oils.

Covid destroyed my senses of smell and taste, plus gave me disgusting phantom smells. Since then smell and taste have returned, though incompletely, but every time I catch a cold I go back to square one. They come back eventually, but it can take weeks or months.

I think it helps, once the illness has passed, to smell familiar things and visualise the smell you expect. A bit depressing at first.

Sorry for reviving an old thread.

Last month when I was preparing to go on holiday I was packing some perfume I'd bought previously and hardly used. I tried it before packing and couldn't smell anything. I thought I'd been sold a dud, even though it was a reputable retailer. Since then I've slowly realised I can't smell anything and my sense of taste is now totally nil.
I was quite poorly a few months ago and did a covid test. The test was negative but the test was out of date so I do not know if the result was to be relied on.

Not smelling anything has totally taken me by surprise. As pp said I really didn't realise how it would detract from my quality of life. I'm also now worried in case it's something really serious like onset of Patkinson's disease.

So this has been going on for at least a month and I wondered if anyone had experienced this for this length of time and returned to " normal" without any interventions?
