UTI Symptoms gone - still take antibiotics?

I went to the doctor a week ago with UTI symptoms. She wasn’t sure if it was an infection or not so sent a urine sample off for testing. In the meantime I took the sachet things and the symptoms have gone away and I feel better.

I’ve now had a call to say it was a UTI and been prescribed antibiotics. I’ve collected them but unsure if I should take them? I know the answer is probably no, but I worry the infection is still lingering and that it doesn’t just completely go away on its own? Anyone know?

I think maybe take the sachets for a couple more days and keep drinking loads, and knock it on the head that way. Better to avoid a course of antibiotics if you can.

@mildlydispeptic thanks for replying. Yes that’s what I’m thinking, feels a bit wrong taking antibiotics when I feel fine and seem to have it under control. I just wasn’t sure if the bacteria could actually go away on its own entirely. I’ll keep hold of the antibiotics just in case symptoms come back.

Good luck! Hope it's gone for good.

Fingers crossed it's gone but yes keep the antibiotics in case and start the course if you get any more symptoms.

UTI's are funny , last one I had I thought I'd managed to flush it out and felt fine
A week later it came back with a vengeance out of nowhere one morning , peeing blood the lot

@solice84 this is what concerns me, do they ever really go on their own or just fade off a bit and eventually return possibly worse than before. I suppose at least I have the antibiotics handy now so if I get a hint of a symptom I’ll just take them.

The sachets make your urine less acidic so can take away the pain of a UTI without curing it and then the pain returns when you stop then if you still have an infection. If you have had the three days of sachets, I would stop them for 24hrs and see if the pain returns before not taking antibiotics.

@Trisolaris that’s interesting. It has been a few days since taking the sachets and I still feel ok so hopefully it has actually gone but I still wonder if it can remain at a low level but not present any symptoms.
