Stomach ache after I eat. Why?

Harhli · 22/10/2023 20:41

After food my stomach aches.

Not a sharp pain, more a dull ache.

Very central on my body.

Doesn't appear to be any particular foods, more all foods, no matter what I eat.

Last night I ate at tea time, within minutes the ache started. I went to bed at 11.00, with the same ache and woke this morning with it continuing.

By lunchtime today it had stopped. I've eaten a small snack at lunchtime and again at tea time and the ache has started again.

A similar pattern has gone on for the last two months or so.

Is this a cause for concern or not?

Thank you.

Gastritis? Can be caused by a number of things including anxiety.

Thank you for responding. I'm busy doing a bit of reading about possibilities. My GP is so rubbish I know I'll not get any advice.

I've had this a few times, no idea what causes it but the problem has always been solved by a months course of pre/Pro biotics.

Can you suggest anything in particular, @Rhubarbandfennel? I also go through phases of this. I often have an IBS flare up at the same time. Feels like everything is a bit inflamed. I usually fine omeprazole for a few days/week sorts out the stomach pain quickly, but would be great to find an alternative

@MsFrog These are the ones I've taken that work for me. I used to take them for a month or so, then a few years ago I took them for about 3 months and it's only come back very mildly since then. Fingers crossed for you.

Most likely gastritis.

Ormonde · 23/10/2023 22:31

I had similar. I had a one month course of Lanzoprazole which reduced my stomach acid enough for the gastritis to be able to heal.

So many possible causes OP. A relation had similar and turned out to be mesenteric ischemia, but was prolonged over a year or more. Have you seen the GP? IBS seems most likely
