candle wax on hair

my son tipped over a candle today in a restaurant. Candle wax in hair...he is 3 and won't let me brush it out- understandably..any advice on how to remove it?

wash in it as warm water as he can bear?

put hairdryer on it to melt it?

pick it out when he is asleep?

is it loads? is it near the scalp or on ends?

I'd just leave it and wait for it come out naturally.
