How long for ear infection to clear up?

I've had an ear infection in one ear for a week. The doctor prescribed me antibiotic drops at the weekend and I need to keep taking them until Sunday. The inflammation has gone and pain reduced but its still throbbing to my heartbeat and I have screaming tinnitus in that ear. The doctor said there was no blockage, just inflammation. How long does it usually take to completely clear up? I'm unsure if I should try to make another appointment next week or wait.

If it’s no better on Monday morning you make an appointment, as the course of treatment has finished.

@DustyLee123 yes I think I'll call again on Monday. I have a high temp and feeling unwell too but I think that might be a separate thing as that's come on more recently.

I’d suggest that your temp and feeling unwell is connected, and you’d be within your rights to ring 111, as the treatment isn’t working and you’re getting worse.

I had ear infection as part of flu once and it was a good month or so before symptoms went away but even after that I struggled on and off for a few years with tinnitus

@CornishGem1975 yes I'm worried the tinnitus will stay. I have tinnitus anyway but it's low level and I can usually ignore it. The tinnitus in my infected ear is really bad and it's affected my hearing. Hopefully that will fade.

Mine improved it just took a little while so fingers crossed
