Any advice re kidney infection?

I have just started a course of antibiotics for a kidney infection. Its the first one I have had. Rather stupidly I was in pain for 2 weeks before going to Doc and eneded up being sent by Doc to A&E to have my heart and lungs checked as the pain had spread up through my chest and down my arm. Everything ok with heart and lungs and pain appears related to Kidney infection.
How long can I expect to feel ill for? I feel really dreadful and the pain is especially bad when walking. I am drinking lots of water but does anyone else have advice?

Thanks

give the antibiotics a few days and you will feel so much better if no difference in 2 days go back to the doctor I have just finished 2 lots of antibiotics for a kidney infection and I too had been feeling rough for about a month but thought I was just tired etc I had left it so long the 1st course didn't clear it Drinking water and rest were recommended to me and when I finally slowed down I really got better quickly HTH

Yes I know!!But I had no typical symptoms just aches and pains and nausea so I tried reating myself with loads of water and healthy food but still felt rubbish! You will feel better really soon the antibiotics are the only thing for this type of infection

I had a pseudamonas kidney infection (this means it's hospital-borne) after having dd1 and can really empathise with the pain you're in, I know it can make you feel like you're dying and I think kidney related things can make you feel quite anxious (well, I think chinese medicine and homeopathy seem to take this view if I remember rightly). I ended up being hospitalised for a week to get rid of mine with intravenous antibiotics, but have to say once you find the right antibiotic it seems to work very quickly - I tried about 5 lots before going into hospital after having the infection for 8 weeks. I had a kidney scan after too and luckily had not suffered any scarring. However, I would say to go back and be pushy if the antibiotics aren't working - I wish I'd done this earlier (I had a newborn baby, and the infection was hospital-borne and it ruined my first couple of months as a new mum). The water thing really is important and I would try not to exercise too much. I remember being bedridden for two days after doing about 10 sit-ups, it isn't worth pushing yourself as it can make you feel so much worse. I'm sure your antibiotics will start to help soon, the reason I ended up in hospital was because I refused to stop breastfeeding my dd and so they had to try and find things that wouldn't have an ill-effect on her (the last resort was intravenous antibiotics), so don't be scared by me saying that. Hope you get better soon
