Hospital eye prescription voucher

Hi there, my toddler was seen at the hospital eye clinic and provided with a prescription/ voucher, the appointment was long and a bit of a whirlwind seeing 3 different professionals and we was directed to take the prescription to an opticians to get his glasses, so I forgot ask at the time.
Does anyone know if I will be paying any additional cost or does the voucher cover the entire cost of the glasses? And can I take this voucher to any opticians? TIA x

It depends.
You will be able to get glasses for free but if it’s a strong prescription and the voucher covers the cost of the first level of thinning, if you wanted them extra thin, you would need to pay for the next level of thinning at most opticians.
Although Asda opticians do free thinning anyway so let you have even thinner ones for free. It makes them lighter, and more aesthetically pleasing.

It depends on the frames you choose as to whether you need to pay extra (they should have a selection of free/cheaper ones). Some opticians charge for thinning them too (if required for a high prescription). Why not visit a few opticians before you decide which one to go for. We use an independent optician rather than the likes of specsavers, optical express, etc

What are the numbers on the prescription?

Specsavers used to at least have a limited range of completely free glasses with voucher then we paid £39 for a second pair

DD has had glasses since she was 3. We use an independent Opticians and sometimes pay a little more. When we've tried places like Asda or Specsavers they seem to fall apart quite quickly.
