Low Ferritin

How long might it take to improve?

Haemoglobin levels are normal but ferritin is 18 (should be 30 according to GP) so I'm starting on iron supplements and will have bloods reviewed in 3 months.

GP thinks low ferritin is due to a pattern of pregnancies and breastfeeding stemming back to 2017 and my body has never really recovered. My main symptoms are tiredness, poor concentration, headaches, hair loss and dry skin.

Anyone experienced similar symptoms/treatment plans?

@BHRK what ones are you taking and how long until you noticed a difference

My ferritin is 7 and I've been diagnosed with iron deficiency anaemia. Recently started taking ferrous sulphate which you shouldn't take within one hour of drinking tea or eating wholegrain as it makes it useless. I've been taking them at 7.30pm on an empty stomach. Seems to be OK so far apart from a bit of dizziness about an hour afterwards. I had absolutely no symptoms of anaemia at all and it was only discovered by a random blood test for something else. The GP seemed surprised I was upright 🤣

Btw last time I went to the pharmacy they had ran out of ferrous sulphate and they gave me ferrous fumarate instead and it’s made the world of difference to me! I am staying up after 9.30pm and my legs aren’t bruised all over. Would recommend.
