Reassurance needed - dd (6 months) has developed rash

Noticed it this morning on her legs at first, but it has now spread to her truck, neck and a small patch on her face. Looks like a heat rash so let her play this morning in just a vest but no improvement. Just need reassurance that I shouldn?t been too concerned, her temperature is normal (38.5), appetite for breast milk good ? she didn?t take much lunch (sweet potato) but only started weaning a 15 days ago and it is a bit of a struggle ? and she is happy and contented. Dh wants me to take her to the doctors but my gut is that she is fine and that it is maybe a reaction to solids or the beginning of eczema (which I have always had) and I think doctors would refuse to see her anyway. Any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated as I am really a wee bit anxious. Thanks in advance.

do the glass test to reassure yourself (clear glass press onto the skin) if the rash disappears under pressure don't worry, if it doesn't off to the GP ASAP.

don't worry about contacting your GP if you are worried, they really really don't mind.

38.5 is not normal in a small baby. are you sure its not a fever?

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 07/03/2008 14:10

The temp is quite high for such a young baby and you need to do the glass test on the rash right now.

PrioryParkChick · 07/03/2008 14:13

Think I am going mad, meant to type 35.8 in temp - I have just taken it again and it is at 36.4. That's ok isn't it?

Have done the glass test - disappears under pressure thankfully.

I've always ad eczema too, my lo is 7 months and just starting with a very mild pink rash on the backs on his knees, under his chin/around his face and on his chest/tummy where food and dribble soak through his clothes. I was worried too, googled images of the meningitis rash etc

I think it's just a reaction to new foods, personally. I've cut out all soap/wash products except for a tiny bit of shampoo now and then, and we are just using diprobase and vaseline on his skin, and being vigilant about changing clothes which get wet after food etc, and wiping his drooly chin- it has mostly gone (behind the knee stubbornly remains)

Is the rash mild, pinky red, no spots or blisters? My lo doesn't find his itchy (yet)

If you are concerned phone your doctor's surgery and ask to speak to a doctor for advice, if he/she is concerned after talking to you I'm sure they will ask you to bring the baby in.
