Anyway know what GP likely to do if my BP is consistently around 140/80?

I'm 54 and on HRT but no other health issues.

140/80 isn't super high. You could probably make lifestyle adjustments to help

quixote12 · 11/10/2023 17:01

Ask if they will let you try and get it down yourself. Happened to me recently but couldn't make a difference with diet and exercise, it was stress related which is harder to deal with and I ended up on medication. Mine was higher than yours though.

IncognitoMam · 11/10/2023 17:05

That's not that high. Try upping cardio and drinking beetroot juice or if you don't like beetroot take the capsules.

I'm getting mine checked again next week. It was really high at one point but I had a virus starting. It's pretty normal most of the time now.

Do you check yours regularly?

I had to come off hrt as caused silent migraines. I take menopace plus now.

Sorry what's a silent migraine?

Janieforever · 11/10/2023 17:08

That’s not so high. It’s the top one that’s above where it should be. Can I ask are you over weight? Are you physically active? Do you drink a lot of coffee or alcohol, or have a lot of salt in your food?

Often it can be managed by lifestyle if the answer is yes to any of the above anmd no to the active one.

Thanks all, never heard of beetroot helping, will try that!

Do you exercise much?

PinkFootstool · 11/10/2023 20:42

@UpendedPineapple silent mi is when you get various migraine symptoms but no head pain. Could be visual aura, dizziness, slurred speech, aphasia, light sensitivity etc.

It's not that high as a single reading but over time it's not good.

Your advice of beetroot juice and menopace is nonsense. Ramipril and effective HRT would be far better for the OP's cardiovascular health.

GettingStuffed · 13/10/2023 18:34

From my own experience your BP is about as high as it goes in the normal range. I've been on medication for the last 10 or so years . Since being diagnosed I've lost a couple of stone and I've dropped a medication. I'm also more active, look at your diet and exercise to see if there's any changes you can make. If not medication may be needed in the future.

No it isn't nonsense. It's well known about beetroot Juice and menopace plus has helped me and countless others. HRT isn't for everyone.

IncognitoMam · 18/10/2023 12:12

Thanks for that.

I have high blood pressure (quite a bit higher than OP when not medicated) and am not allowed HRT.... I would give my right arm for it, but it's considered to be a conflict.

LoganCaleSeries5 · 19/10/2023 22:46

it could be a combination of factors

Mine was slightly raised when I went to the menopause clinic and Dr said it's probably a good job I'm off HRT.
