My family get it through work, I have never used it, but want to for an existing problem that is currently being investigated by the NHS? I have been urgently referred to hospital and the wait times are nearly a year for a hospital 1 hour drive away and a year and a half for one a little closer.

Was it pre-existing before you were covered by the health insurance? If so, it may not be covered. There was another thread recently about vitality if you search for it.

You need to understand more about your policy and whether the condition is considered pre existing (it may not be if you have been a vitality member for a while but not used it), or whether your employer has a 'medical history disregarded' policy (ie they cover pre existing conditions too) and whether you have an excess

If it's not considered pre existing, it doesn't matter if you are on an NHS waiting list, getting it done quicker is the point of private health.

You'd need a GP referral to a consultant (either a specific doctor or a specialty), you need to choose the doctor and hospital you want to use, get authorisation from Vitality to see them and then call to get booked in via the hospital/their secretary/some you can book directly online.

Then just make sure you contact Vitality to get approval for anything they want to do e.g if you need an MRI or anything. In my experience they usually approve first consultation, bloods/x rays etc, and follow up appointment in the first instance

We've had Vitality at work for years and it's very well regarded, I've always found them really helpful personally
