Tiredness. Unexplained weight loss. Very thirsty. Needing to pee more than normal. These are the most common ones.

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/03/2008 17:25

would you feel as though things tasted salty,do you know ?

Don't think so! Do things that aren't salty, taste more salty? Or totally unsalty things taste salty too?

3Ddonut · 06/03/2008 17:28

I suppose it's possible, I don't know that to be a particular symptom, I think that goes along with dehydration and peeing a lot could cause that....why don't you go to your practice nurse or Lloyds chemist they could do blood sugar test (prick of blood, result in a few secs) to see if your blood sugar was within range, but really if you think you may be diabetic you should see your GP for fasting glucose bloods and other fancy ones.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/03/2008 17:29

Doesn't sound like diabetes to me ... does sound like something you should have checked.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/03/2008 17:30

Oh, wait ... if you have untreated diabetes, your saliva might be sugary, and that might make other things taste salty by comparison?

Are you having other symptoms?

This page goes on about taste disorders, a bit.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/03/2008 17:31

Another page, specifically on salty tastes. An oral infection sounds very likely.

Iworryalot · 06/03/2008 17:43

My dad was diagnosed some years back and was so thirsty all the time ,he was drinking pints of squash at a time and still thirsty, his moods would change to Jackel and hyde !
Simple blood test would put find out for sure.
Hope thats a help

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/03/2008 19:02

thanks all - am not drinking or weeing excessively, just aware of saltiness, but I am also a bit stressed, so maybe that would account for it ?

btw, things don't taste salty as such, only I'm aware that there's a kind of salty feeling in the back of my throat

You could get that from a runny nose, maybe? Could be stress-related, too, sure.

If it keeps up, I'd go see a GP about it, as it could be a symptom of something bigger. Maybe try using mouth wash and gargling a bit, to clear up any infection?

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/03/2008 10:04

am pretty certain it isn't a mouth infection, it's not really in my mouth, just a sensation, prob. not explaining very well...am fine in myself, tired, but then everyone is !
