Virus causing sore/swollen tongue & excess saliva

Hi all,

I’m very run down and stressed and have come down with a sore throat and raised glands but also randomly I have such a sore tongue and excess saliva and a constant funny taste in my mouth.

I have done a covid test but it was negative. It’s my tongue that is bothering me the most. It feels too big for my mouth and hurts just sitting in my mouth. Has anyone had a similar virus? Feeling really down!

Yes my daughter did! It was weird. The end of her last virus she had this, her lips were also sore and a bit swollen.

@EmmaPaella my lips are sore too but not sure if that’s from me sitting with my mouth open constantly because my tongue feels so weird 😫Good to know I’m not on my own though!

How are your tonsils? The excess saliva/drooling makes me think of quinsy. Are you having difficulty swallowing at all?

Oooh, weird, I had similar a couple of weeks ago. Very slight sore throat but then all the back of my tongue hurt like I had burnt it, but absolutely had not. Have no tonsils anymore fortunately.

@PortalooSunset this will sound pathetic but I’ve never had tonsillitis before so I don’t really know what I’m looking for. I can see some white spots at the back of my throat so guessing this isn’t a good sign 😅

@Blarn yes that’s exactly what mine feels like except it’s the tip of my tongue. It does look red and sore though.

I’ll see a GP tomorrow!

White spots sounds like infection for sure, definitely see GP. If you start to have difficulty swallowing saliva then don't wait until tomorrow.

Sounds like it could be quinsy OP. Hope you managed to see a GP.
