Trapped nerve in back/neck- how long till better?

I think (according to Google) have a trapped nerve at the top of my back/ neck.
I'm using voteral gel and cocodamal and amitriptyline.
Has anyone else had this? How long did it last? Should I bother a gp?

I had a trapped nerve 2 winters in a row. Took about 4 months to wear off . Absolute agony.

I need to dig out my work medical insurance and see if I'm covered. It's the first time it's happened and I can't afford to go private atm.

I did
And went to the hospital the first time
They just gave me exercises to do and a prescription for codeine
