Swollen sore foot (no obvious injury)

I noticed yesterday morning (Friday) the area of the top my foot into lower ankle was slightly swollen, warm to touch and sensitive. Walking on foot fine yesterday.

Today it's more swollen, red and still warm to touch. Hurts more to move and walk on. I can get about fine and am walking on it as usual. Did some gardening and now sat with ice on it as it's worse. (whoops)

I have had COVID this week so have been in bed for best part of 2-3 days. Up and about more from Thursday. Can't understand how I've Injured my foot.

Had a minor panic last night about it being a dvt.

Saw pharmacist today in boots who took a look and said to use anti inflammatory gels etc. Go to gp if no better Monday. He reassured me in saying a dvt would travel up the ankle and look more red etc.

Any ideas?

Without wishing to offend, it’s a pharmacist, not a Dr. I would at least mark the red area and see if it spreads. Could it be a bite of some description?

Could it be gout?

theduchessofspork · 23/09/2023 14:45

Sounds like it could be cellulitis, so get it seen on Monday unless it’s better. If it gets enthusiastic over the weekend go to a walk in for antibiotics

If you have been in bed then oedema maybe? Try a flight sock.

Could it be gout?

I thought that when I saw the picture, as it’s on the joint.

I must say though, you seem to have a lot of the symptoms of a clot……

@Tulipvase I went to the pharmacist in the first instance as it's the weekend, have two little kids and partner now has covid. Aim was for pharmacy to advise if I needed to see Dr.

It's not incredibly red, assuming it would be more of a sunburn red if it was dvt?

@theduchessofspork will definitely be phoning GP Monday (if I can get through) if it's worse tomorrow will phone 111.

Your leg also looks swollen. I can’t se much redness but if there is any then draw round with a marker pen and if it spreads call 111. It could be some kind of inflammatory thing and would go and se a doc if it doesn’t improve. Ibuprofen would help if it is inflammation.

Could you have had an insect bite at all?
That can lead to , as someone mentioned, cellulitis; which will make your ankle feel stiff and immobile, alongside the redness and localised warmth. Mark the redness to track if it is spreading, which is one of the signs. Also, if you feel generally unwell, although difficult to know for sure if getting over Covid.
It requires antibiotics, but maybe a cool pack will help with any pain for now.
