Think ds (9) has IBS - will the doctor be able to help or should we just live with it?

Last time I went to the doctor with it when he was 7 the doctor said we can't do any tests because it isn't bad enough (back then he had the runs really bad atleast once a month and often complained of tummy ache) but now it's once a week. Is that bad enough to go and see the doctor again, they always make me feel as if I'm bothering them somehow. And it's cold and I have to keep opening windows to let fresh air in

Have you thought about hypnotherapy? Can be incredibly effective even in children. Uses visualisation type approaches and metaphors. Worth a try as no side effects and the kids often love it!

Really, could hypnotherapy help with IBS? I'd try anything to help him really, he was up at 5am standing next to my bed in the dark saying he had tummy ache again but he went back to sleep.

I read some old threads about some IBS sufferers drinking aloe vera juice. Where do you get it? I looked in the supermarket and there was nothing in the drinks section (am in Germany)

Hypnotherapy can be really helpful for children but often dismissed as it's thought of as "a bit weird". Most therapists will let you as the the parent sit in on the session so you know it's all above board. I'm a hypnotherapist (in case you hadn't guessed) and I've treated many children effectively and many adults with IBS. Don't see why it can't do both. Check out www.bsch.org.uk All the people on there are properly qualified and you can then find one in your area.

Good luck!
