Sting site getting worse and worse

RudsyFarmer · 19/09/2023 23:19

I was stung by some flying thing in the night. Didn’t see it but later I think it flew past me so I’m assuming a wasp.

The sting site is getting worse and worse eight days later. Each day it spreads out its circumference. Red and hot. I was prescribed antibiotic cream
after sending my GP a photo and requested to apply it three or four times a day.

Any idea when I might see an improvement and when I should actively do something more? I’ve wondering about cellulitis and what to watch out for.

It sounds like you need antibiotics asap.

8 days and it should long have responded to the cream.

Send a photo to your GP first thing, and follow up with a call for a prescription to pick up in the afternoon

When did you see your gp and how long have you been applying the cream? If it is getting worse after 48 hours of applying cream you need to be seen again and get antibiotics. Do you have a fever or feel fluey/ unwell?

Have you taken any antihistamines?

ChaToilLeam · 19/09/2023 23:47

I had similar and needed a 3 week course of antibiotics. It needs speedy treatment!

RudsyFarmer · 20/09/2023 07:08

Haven’t taken an antihistamine no.

sent doctor a photo two days ago and pick up my cream yesterday. Haven’t ‘seen’ anyone about it.

draw a ring around it with indelible pen and date and time it.

take Claritin or Zyrtec today and then pitiron tonight

put the antibiotic cream on it as per instructions and slather it on

take your temperature

check if your arm above the sting site is feeling warm

call 111 and ask for advice

if the redness spreads outside of the ring you drew, your arm feels warmer than the other arm or you start a temp /feeling not well.. then go to A and E with the original photos and your notes

I will do exactly that.

This morning it hasn’t spread for the first time. So hopefully we’re turning a corner.

I honestly didn’t know that. I just thought it would settle on its own.

Well sometimes they do, but antihistamines are great for any bite that's very itchy or taking a long time to clear up. ABs only if it's infected.
You can buy antihistamines OTC very cheaply, also from supermarkets.

How are you doing today OP?
