I have this on my lip and I had a look and so do my kids and husband! I thought I just had a spot. It really hurts! I'm worried that we all have it?!

Cold sore.

OhGoddd · 15/09/2023 18:04

Nooo I thought it looked to spot like. I've never had a cold sore before 😭😭 does this mean I'm going to get them all the time Sad

The virus is now in your system for life, if that’s what it is. It will be dormant most of the time but will flare up when you’re tired, low or poorly. A good cold sore cream can help to reduce the severity if you apply it quickly enough when you feel the first tingle.

OhGoddd · 15/09/2023 18:14

Ah I'm so upset I was genuinely hoping someone would say some contagious skin condition like impetigo not something so permanent. Bugger Sad

It could be impetigo, have any of you got more than one spot?

Roxinabox · 15/09/2023 18:18

Get yourself some lysine supplements, they really helped me.

OhGoddd · 15/09/2023 18:19

No they are all on our lips so I guess that's telling Sad

Lysine supplements is the ultimate to get rid of it . Then take one a day to stop further outbreaks .

if that’s your first coldsore it’s not too bad! I only have to look at this picture an il start to feel a tingle !

MistyBay · 15/09/2023 18:24

I had one a couple of weeks ago and it went fast. I don’t usually get them and was not ill. I think there is something going around.

Not necessarily, I snogged a boy who had a cold sore when I was 13 and caught one, I'm now 43 and have never had another one.

35and3 · 15/09/2023 18:36

HFM?

HerculesMulligan · 15/09/2023 18:38

I think it’s hand foot and mouth.

bluejelly · 15/09/2023 18:43

Something like 80% of people in the UK have been exposed to cold sores. Not all of them return, and if they do they are mostly mild (though some are sore/painful).
I would definitely recommend going to a pharmacist though. It might well be something else (and easily treatable)

Oh really?! Would it randomly start on the lips of all of us with nothing anywhere else? I have thoroughly examined everyone and can't find anything else 😂 though my hands and feet feel all pins and needly now but that's probably in my head isn't it!

I also think it is hand foot and mouth.

Aquamarine1029 · 15/09/2023 20:22

If they are cold sores, don't panic. Lysine really is the answer. My dad started taking one lysine tablet a day 30 years ago and he's never had a cold sore since.

Hollyppp · 15/09/2023 20:30

Looks like cold sore / face herpes to me

OhGoddd · 15/09/2023 21:01

Hmm googling HFM we've not had any fevers or sore throats just weird mouth spots! I guess we will wait and see...

Same here. Had one huge cold sore when I was 22 but not had one for 16 years - touch wood!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/09/2023 21:45

Looks like HFM to me , especially as the whole family have it at the same time.
