Title says it all really. I'm in Brazil and no-one could explain what it was to me in a language which I could understand. I should just say that I'm going through a series of health checks for some rather odd aches and pains.

Ecography should just mean ultrasound, shouldn't it? (I'm basing this on the fact that in Italian a scan is an ecografia... not on any scientific knowledge, you understand.) So it sounds like a scan like the ones they give you in very early pregnancy, which is done internally rather than through the tummy. Does that make sense? I've never had one, but I think it's a kind of a wand-like thing that they use so it shouldn't be painful. Hope this helps reassure you, at least until someone with some real scientific knowledge comes along.

I hope that you're OK.

I'm sure its an ultrasound scan where instead of the probe going on your tummy, it is placed inside your vagina (not as bad as it sounds really!). Its not painful at all.

It tends to be used to get better views of your uterus, ovaries and tubes than you can manage using an abdominal scan.

Thanks Ellbell, that sounds about right, it's ecografia in Portuguese too. If that's it then I'm panicing about nothing, I had one done post birth (almost 8 years ago) in Denmark so I didn't know the word there either. Blimey, I really should stay in one country shouldn't I. I went to the hospital today for the third time and they've instructed me to do 5 more tests, won't that be fun!

Good luck, Albert. I hope it's all OK.
