My DS, almost 3, has been a bit run down for the last couple of days and today has been complaining of a sore tongue, crying when eating and drinking etc. I can't see anything worng with it, but does anyone have any idea what this might be?

Hand, foot and mouth?
Look on hands and feet for any small spots.
Very painful in the mouth.

Ooh - does it feel like he's burnt it? (hard question to ask a 3yo, I know) Is it all over (ie. not just one spot like an ulcer). I'm not going to be much help here, but DH and I had something like this recently - it came and went in a few days. We never worked out what it was, and then a friend of mine and her GP partner got it too - he's never come across it before, but has recently had patients with it too. Seems to be some kind of little virus. It did go away after a few days.

Hmm, no apparent ulcers or anything like that, I think he may have bitten hs tongue or something, but will keep and eye out for any developments. Thanks for your responses, and so quickly.
