scan to investigate swollen node in groin area

Hiya

In january I noticed that the lymph nose in my groin area (At the crease at the top of my leg) was slightly swollen (though not Painful) and so I went to the doctor on 21st Jan. She said she would get me an appointment for a scan. I am still waiting.

My period this month has been 8 days so far with a lot of clots at the begining and very red blood. It seems to be slowing down now with signs that it's stopping but I went back to the doctors today because I was concerned that the lump is still there (Though slightly smaller) and my period has been so long.

While the doctor was reassuring and says she will chase up the scan, I still feel very worried about it all as I am TTC and am scared my short cycle (24 days) and long periods are an indication that something is seriously wrong.

Has anyone here ever had a swolen node/gland and/or long periods?

Can I specifically ask the person doing the scan to check for anything wrong which my might effect my fertility seeing as the initial scan was booked purely to check out the node, or should I just rely on the fact that the doctor would maybe have made notes which will be passed onto the hospital?

any advice or experience would be helpful.

sorry - node not nose. If I had a nose in my groin I'd be very concerned.

I have a swollen lymph gland in my groin. Have had it for about 10 years. The doc said it prob became swollen when i was trying to fight an infection elsewhere in my body and that it was nothing to worry about. I'm sure that if he'd been wrong i wouldn't still be here!

Yes I have. Went to docs about 18 months ago afetr having it for about a year. I was very scared.....she sent me for a second opinion.

The consensus was, as it had been there so long, it wasn't anything to be concerned about. Also as it was possibly just near the surface, so it was bigger than normal.

Still here 18 months later........

Phew. Your stories have made me feel a bit better - I have been getting more and more worried.

I also had a swollen lymph node in my groin for 2 or 3 years. It was caused by shingles, which I had on my left buttock.

A swollen lymph gland in your groin and your menstrual cycle are not likely to be related.

Most swollen glands do not signify a serious underlying cause, but do require investigation to exclude a potential problem.

All women differ from person to person as to how long their cycles are and how long and heavily they are on for- what you describe doesn't sound wildly abnormal! It certainly shouldn't indicate a problem for you TTC.

Scans don't tend to show up the most common causes for infertility- different tests are used for this. Investigations usually aren't indicated for a couple unless you have been TTC for at least a year. Ask your GP if you are concerned about this and they can get the ball rolling.

I hope this helps

I contracted glandular fever a year and a few months ago, I have two glands in my neck that are pea sixe and have never gone down. My GP's done blood tests but they are all clear. Was nothing to worry about.

Between the ages of about 13 and 30 I had a swelling in my groin, just above the crease of my leg. It was actually a small hernia, which I had repaired via minor surgery. Perhaps your is the same? Mine was not a problem, or threatening to my fertility, just ached sometimes. I had it repaired as I didn't want pregnancy to make it worse. That was 7 years and 3 children ago, so all has been fine.

Doctor says not a hernia (she did the coughing thing ) so I guess it is just an infection fighting thing. Will look up shingles but I guess if I had that I would know by now .

thanks everyone
