Best Fast Acting Cold Remedies/Medicines??

vaccinistatotebagchicbarista · 11/09/2023 20:45

I’ve come down with a horrible heavy cold that I woke up with yesterday morning. I’ve done 2 covid tests so fairly confident it’s not that - will do another tomorrow to be sure.

I am bloody lousy at being ill, especially with colds and flu. My body also seems to take them so much more strongly than anyone else like my partner, for example. Current symptoms are a very very stuffy and runny nose which seems to flit between being completely blocked on both sides and then running like a tap; a very high temp that’s not really broken since yesterday morning; a scratchy throat with a mild cough and terrible head and body aches. I also can’t sleep because of the hot weather combined with fever and all the sniffling so I’m tired and bloody miserable - I paid £9.50 for 5 covid tests and nearly had a toddler tantrum in Tesco pharmacy!

So yes, I am a massive wuss and I give you permission to tell me that. But please please hit me with your best remedies or OTC medicine recommendations?? I’ve had my chicken soup and a very bloody expensive innocent smoothie for some vitamins, and I’m currently dousing myself in Olbas oil and huffing Sinex nasal spray like a champ. Anything else?

You poor thing, that sounds rotten. I take Sudafed when I have a cold as it dries up the runny nose/stops sneezes/unblocks nose.

Very boring but rest and lots of warm clear fluids like herbal teas. I also like Boots cold and flu tablets.

Day Nurse tablets are a lifesaver!

My dad's hot toddy recipe: whisky, hot water, honey and lemon juice.

And peppermint tea for after.
