Would you seek medical attention for a human scratch?

I work in a care home and an elderly gentleman lashed out at me earlier and caused a nasty scratch. The nurse on duty cleaned it and covered it but I wondered if I should seek further medical attention such as a tetanus injection or do I just wait and see if it becomes infected or not?

It is quite deep and drew blood.

Have you been vaccinated?
But also, have you not scratched yourself before?
Tetanus is more a garden sort of risk anyway.

Here is how it looks now I'm home.

Nope. I work in an urgent care centre as a nurse practitioner and that does not need antibiotics nor tetanus. It is not what would be considered a tetanus prone wound. Keep it covered as you are doing

I'm not a health professional but if it were me id give it a clean a couple of times a day, cover and see how it goes.

No. I work in a school and have been scratched like that before. Just leave it to heal on its own.

I’d probably have a hot shower and run TCP over it (no medical training here!) I wouldn’t cover it in bed personally, let it breathe. Cover when going out.

A hard job to do OP 💐

If your old man had tetanus, you would know it.

Content yourself that a nurse has already tended to it and will have advised if any further medical attention was needed.
