DD3 (22m) has been teething and associated with that is the stools which burn thru her skin in about 2mins flat.

A couple of days ago she got left in a dirty nappy for up to an hour as it had no odour what so ever and wasn't noticed until bedtime. Consequently she has a v sore bottom.

The overall redness has gone with metanium and bare bum time. BUT she has a sore area (about 1cm across) of broken skin which although healing is takoing a bit more time. Can I continue using Metanium on it? (I havn't been as it gets in and won't clean away).

She also has 4-5 tiny blisters/large whitehead type pimples. Is this just part of the nappy rash or is it a bacterial/fungal infection. I have bacterial skin infections and I am pretty sure it is not bacterial but don't know what thrush looks like.

I could be thrush given the white pimples but you prob need to see your GP/practice nurse...

...We had horrible nappy rash very early on with DS2 and went from Sudocrem through Metanium through thrush treatment and steroid cream and finally settled on the only thing that worked recommended by a HV, some stuff called Cavilon which is used in burns units and geriatric wards and is basically a skin-friendly 'varnish' that you can spray over broken skin that is constantly exposed to chafeing/moisture (eg in a nappy situation)...

It's quite fiddly to put on and it basically just 'wears' off and is some fairly heavy duty petrochemicals but it prevented the constant abrasion and acid from stopping healing for our little one...

But you might have to persuade them to prescribe it for you but I can strongly recommend it

I always trowelled on the sudocrem, you can use it on broken skin (I think it says you can use it on burns, so assume it would be safe) Hope it settles soon for you Jx

TY.

Will take her to GP on Monday if no better.

It is the pimply things I have not seen in a nappy before that I am not sure about

my three n half mth old boy used to have terrible nappy rash with broken skin, for over a month. It is now completely clear, we washed his bottom with warm water & cotton wool, then dried him very thoroughly with toilet roll, then applied olive oil once in the morning and once at night, in between we used metonium on the broken parts too but a very thin layer. we also changed his nappies when he woke in the middle of the night. I only use sudo cream when he hasnt got a rash as I think it is only preventative, sorry to go on but I know how upsetting rashes are I hope this might work for you.

Mine occasionally got the pimply bits- like little plukes?? Slightly blistery?? Think its like a kind of scald reaction.

I use Fullers Earts cream it is a mild antiseptic cream, DD has never had nappy rash, so I would recommend it as a preventative measure. Go see your GP though to rule out anything else.

Not sure about the pimples, but Ds2 had an area of broken skin when he was 2 weeks old - it was horrid - we tried everything, finally raw egg white as someone on MN suggested it.
It seals the broken area, you need to wash the bottom only with warm water, no wipes/chemicals, then dry with cotton wool, then apply the egg white (I think you're meant to whip it but I didn't!) and it started to 'granulate' round the edges of the patch, then new skin grew over all of it.

Magic

Also leave nappy off completely as much as you can bear!
