15 month old scratching buttocks and thighs - wierd habit or allergy or excema?!

My 15 month old DD tends to scratch her buttocks and thighs when I get her undressed for her bath. When she scratches the area goes all red, but it doesn't seem to be dry at all. She doesn't seem to try to do it much through her clothes in the day - it's the area covered by her nappy really (she wears disposables). Any idea what this could be? Just a wierd habit or a genuine irritation of the skin? I've thought of washing powder but we generally use those ecoball things. Could it be an allergy of some sort, or would she then itch it more?

My 20 month old dd2 does this too and has for a few months. She ends up with little scratch marks all over her bottom. I assume it's just a relief to have her nappy off!

There's a worm that kids can pick up that causes itching - it lays its eggs around the anus, kids scratch, transfer to their mouths, the eggs pass down the digestive tract and it all starts again. Can't remember what its called, I'm sorry. Not trying to frighten you, honest.

Otherwise it might be dhobi's itch, caused by reaction to detergent.

My 20mo does this too. Little scratch marks all over her peachy perfect bum. She stands up in the bath and does it

My DD does this as well at times. I find it helps her to have her nappy off regularly and when I'm putting on the sudacrem I rub it all over her buttocks and thighs. I assume its from the nappy and I make a poimt of changing her more frequently when I notice her doing it.

Seems to helps

Thanks everyone. Good to know i'm not alone in lamenting the damage to my dds peachy bum ! I don't think it's worms as she doesn't seem to be itching around her anus at all. I'll try to get the nappy off more often and put barrier cream on.
