Sudden hearing loss/Cancer safety netting

I experienced sudden hearing loss in one ear a few weeks ago. A hearing test says that it is moderate. My GP is referring me to an ENT specialist marked 'urgent' and has used the phrase 'cancer safety netting' in my patient access notes. The GP didn't say anything about this during my appointment and I feel a bit worried now. Can anyone advise?

From Cancer Research UK:

"Safety netting is a diagnostic management strategy that aims to ensures patients are monitored throughout the diagnostic process until their symptoms or signs are explained and results have been acted upon or their symptoms are resolved."

In other words, when they don't really know what it is they're dealing with.
