DH just did dinner for the DC, and by a massive organisational fuck up on our part has fed them a pasta bake that's been sitting in the oven since wednesday afternoon.

I am panicking now that they will get really ill, what shall I do?

hmmmmmm think of those prepacked ones in sainsbos. all the sitting in factorys, in vans, on shelves.......

meemar · 29/02/2008 17:12

what's it got in it and was it reheated thoroughly?

chibi · 29/02/2008 17:12

probably ok, was it reheated to a boil for at least a few minutes?

Mercy · 29/02/2008 17:12

Oh dear. What was in it?

GetOrfMoiLand · 29/02/2008 17:13

I am sure that they will be ok, unless it had scallops in it or something.

chibi · 29/02/2008 17:13

the prepacked ones are chock full of preservatives to delay going off this sounds homemade

OneHandedTypist · 29/02/2008 17:13

Pasta & cheese would be ok, ime, but if it had any pasta sauce (tomatos) that will have gone right off.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 29/02/2008 17:16

Wholwheat pasta, fresh chopped tomatoes, tinned tomatoes, onion, sweetcorn, garlic and peppers. plus cheddar cheese on top.

It was baked on wednesday, meant for dinner but we got takeaway instead and forgot all about it.

I made pasta for my lunch and put the extra in the fridge for their tea tonight, but DH got confused, saw the pasta in the oven, heated it and fed it to them.

It's the cheese that concerns me the most.

He baked it in the oven at 190 for about 20 minutes, so it was piping hot, and clearly can't have smelt 'off' or he would have noticed.

I've just tried it and it tastes fine, but surely it can't be?

It will be fine - piping hot will have killed off any bugs

OneHandedTypist · 29/02/2008 17:19

I'd probably eat it, if it smells okay because I'm pretty good at smelling/tasting off stuff. Also just realised you said it was from Wednesday, that's only 2 days old, and it's chopped toms which is much better than tom sauce.

Mercy · 29/02/2008 17:20

I think the dc will be ok actually.

I imagine it's a pretty small amount of cheese and assuming it was heated thoroughly etc. Cheese doesn't have to be kept in the fridge.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 29/02/2008 17:25

Thanks, fingers crossed.
We are both such idiots sometimes.

cheese is a way of preserving milk, isnt' it? so logically...
if there had been meat in it i'd have been concerned, but it sounds okay to me.
