hi all, would appreciate some advice on my 6yr old dd, who has very red and itchy vagina for past few days on and off..
She's scratching herself alot which is making her very raw and sore.
Noticed some white discharge around her vagina tonight and thought it may be thrush?
But dont know if this is possible at her age?
and whether i should treat it with canestan or somethig similar or take her to gp to be on the safe side??
Anyone any thoughts?

I think it's possible at any age, but I would go to the gp to check, and get the correct prescription for her.

yes, it is possible and yes i'd use canestan altho' think someone said you ought not to but can't remember why. i have used it on dd and a couple of applications usually sorts it out

My 2 year old dd has vaginal thrush - was complaining for a few days and I took her to the docs yesterday and he prescribed canestan. Doc seemed to think it was not surprising, so I guess it's fairly normal!

Thanks so much everyone..
you've put my mind at ease.. i happen to have some canestan in the house so i'll see if it works for next day or 2.. if not i'll take her to doc..
Thanks again.. you MNers are the biz!!

could you use natural yoghurt if you're worried about the canestan?

morningpaper · 14/12/2004 21:43

By the way, My doc said to continue to slap it on 3 times a day until it had been cleared up for 4 days. You might want to bear that in mind (or not).

I think its quite common if your child has been on antibiotics.

certainly will morningpaper, was wondering how long id need to use it for,
So relieved to hear its not uncommon..
